This. My spouse has a work-issued gun (securely stored) and we don’t talk about it. Most people don’t realize she has a gun for her job. If asked, I would tell very close friends whom we trust, but not many more.

DH owns guns for hunting. He’s also a military vet and an engineer so he enjoys them as a tool. We used to keep our guns offsite so we could reassure parents. Our youngest are now teens and with concern over Trumpers/white supremacists rioting when he loses, our guns are back.

Honestly, we don’t trust anyone else’s gun safety except my brother who is a LEO. Even my dad has lost an unsecured gun in the past few years. When I know there are guns in someone else’s home, I’d rather the kids socialized in mine.

Isn't that the point though? You have no idea whose households have guns, so if this is a concern for you, either only host playdates, do them outside or teach your children what gun safety you can (don't touch, leave the room, tell a grownup) and hope for the best.

Depends on the safe.

And a truly safe home would keep the ammunition separate and locked as well.

Yes and no. People I know who are responsible with guns usually do say hey, I carry for work. As soon as I get hime it goes right in the safe. Kids cannot get access to it, or something like that.

We have neighbors whose dad works for the FBI in field work (he can't talk about his job) and another whose dad is a Caption Hill police officer and canine officer. Of course they have guns and I trust my kids at those parents' homes probably more than any other. You know they have the most training in gun safety; more than any Joe Schmo.

I would ask to see their tax returns. I don't want my kids exposed to any cheats. My kids can only play with kids of parents who have good, honest character.
