Damn let me get about $50K for a new kitchen! It’s just a rounding error on the billion dollar budget after all!

I don't see how more representation is a bad thing.

More bozos naval gazing on the public dime!

You want to reduce actual county services to fund this?

^^^I will note, also, that it's not a question of me wanting to do this. Roughly two-thirds of county voters supported the measure.

Me either. So instead of being represented by a (1.1 million/5)-constituent district member plus four at-large members, I'll now be represented by a (1.1 million/7)-constituent district member plus four at-large members. A good idea.

except more overhead? two more jokers making 140k/yr plus benefits at a time where we should be cutting costs. ugh looks like we'll be bankrolling two more clowns like riemer...

Montgomery County has a $5.8 billion (with a b) operating budget. $280,000 per year is literally a rounding error.

Council staffer here. It's a million because they each hire a bunch of staff.

OK. So spend $6 million instead of $6.5 million on leaf vacuuming, and $16.3 million instead of $16.3 million on patching potholes, and there you go.

You want to reduce actual county services to fund this?

Yes, I think it's fine to reallocate $500,000 from leaf vacuuming and $500,000 from patching potholes to fund two more councilmembers plus staff for a county of 1.1 million people with a $5.8 billion operating budget. Don't you?

Great. 2 more people to ignore the residents they represent while cuddling with their favorite advocacy groups while collecting a hefty paycheck.

I work for Council and I am so upset with those of you who voted for this.

Interesting.

I wish there was a way I could contact you and buy you a cup of coffee while I listen to your personal experiences with the council. I have so many questions.

It's probably no different than any other group of politicians. Now I will just have more of them.

I think it's just possible that the "county council sucks" attitude that's so dominant here doesn't actually represent the majority of voters.

Yep. Just like the comments on Bethesda Beat don't actually represent the majority of voters.
