I work at Dulles.
This happens pretty frequently with passengers from all over the world, even including the US.

Also something that happens all the time is people coming to pick up or drop off the passenger here when they should be at DCA or BWI.

Well, for starters, the airport isn’t in Washington, DC.

Well, as a United hub (C/D gates), IAD is terrible. At least DFW doesn't feel as claustrophobic.

Agree that the United area at Dulles isn't too great, but DFW, at least last time I was there was a dump. Made Dulles look nice. The International area of Dulles is much better...brighter, airy, and pretty comfortable.

We live near Dulles so prefer to fly out there. But flights are limited to where we travel so often end up at DCA, which DH and I cal “DCA” when doing travel planning and discussion. Removed any confusion.

It used to be called Leesburg International.

What? That's not a native test, that's a how much do you get out of the house and travel test and are you at least minimally educated test. I'm from NYC, I don't know a single person who would ever say 'Dooles.' That just sounds like a real hick/rube thing, not area-specific knowledge to the DC area.
