She said she was in love with Townes? Is that the reporter? Why didn't she pursue that?

Who was the man her real mom Alice was talking to before she died? What were they saying?

That was Beth's dad and his new family/wife. She asks for help with taking care of Beth.

I wasn't sure about this scene. I thought it might be that she had an affair with a married man because he kept telling her she had to get out of there. If it was just a previous wife or relationship why all the secrecy? I feel like there were some unanswered questions with Beth's mom and why she felt she had to do what she did.

[SPOILER sort of]

So do we think she stayed in Russia? Or was that last scene meant to just hearken back to her games with the janitor in the basement?

I had quit during episode 6 and my sister convinced me to finish. The last episode was fantastic!

OK, I am the PP above who thought it was kind of boring. I just watched the last episode and thought it was beautiful. Taken together, the whole series has a really nice arc and I retract my previous opinion. Great show!

Was Beth adopted just so Mr. Wheatley could leave Alma and she wouldn't be alone? Both said it was the other's idea. It was actually a relief to me when he left because when they were all first in the headmistress's office, I thought for sure he was a pedophile.

Beth said a couple of times that the doctors believed her mother died of hepatitis--which can be caused by alcoholism (there are 3 types). Townes is gay. He was sharing his room with that guy in Las Vegas. Later when they're reunited in Moscow he said something like "I should have told you" to Beth.

I assumed the guy Alice was talking to was Beth's biological dad, but I'm not sure. They were talking about what to do with Beth. Alice was unraveling and trying to get her daughter to a safe place. When that didn't work she ended up committing suicide by car crash, with Beth in the car.

I just want to say I truly enjoyed this limited series. My husband and i couldn;t wait to watch it every night after our daughter went to bed!

I thought they said mother died from Hepatitis. And I think Townes was gay because of the man he was sharing a room with at the Vegas hotel.

I binged it in two nights. My husband did the same after I told him he probably wouldn't like it (proving me wrong). It was great and I agree that the ending was beautiful.
Spoiler ahead....I cried when she climbed through the pill room door window. I could feel her desperation and it seemed so unfair.
I wonder if her superior chess logic helped her navigate dealing with her adoptive father and his lawyer. I loved that part, she put him to shame.
