It’s easily true. Best case 70% of people get vaccinated and the vaccine is 70% effective. I would 100% believe that’s akin to a masked environment statistically. (Fauci was obviously talking about what a masked environment could be, so assuming proper use.)

I’m not sure if that’s true. But it’s certainly a strong possibility. DC population is also very serious about masks. It’s hard to say what would happen if schools here open more broadly. It’s a giant experiment.

DCPS just sent an email out to staff saying they looked again at the hybrid plan and decided that kids would get less instruction if they implemented it.

Could someone post this message to staff somewhere? Are they really saying that some in-person is worse than no in-person, even for early elementary?

They should be required to release full attendance data.

Wow, while that is true there is a BIG difference between instruction time in person and instruction time DL. Give me fewer in person hours any day. And I agree what DC is doing can't be called a partial re-opning. I would call it that IF it was a first step towards more kids getting to choose in-person at least part-time, but it is not.

It is actually a partial reopening, even if we don't count cares 7,000 kids is still 'partial.' Just because your kid isn't eligible doesn't mean the other 7k don't count. Even if it's only 1/6 of students it's partial. Heck if it was only 1/10 that is still partial.

DCPS did send out an email to staff, this it it folks. I think this is really it. If your child isn't selected likely no in person until August 2021.

In my hospital we were scrambling for masks back in March and April. Departments were setting up makeshift plans to receive mask donations, and my neighbors were dropping construction masks at my house so I could bring them to the hospital. The charge nurse was tasked with handing out one mask per person per shift, with no replacements allowed. I had a kid cough wet mucous in my face and when I begged the charge nurse for a new mask she said she couldn't give me one. These were not even N95, they were procedure masks.
Fauci was at that point trying to preserve masks for the health care workers who needed them. We now have more masks in the supply chain, and more evidence that wearing them helps to prevent the spread of the virus.

And the vast majority of the kids who will be attending school "in person" will be sitting in a classroom with administrative staff doing DL. It is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. This only addresses issues for kids that don't have home environments where they can DL easily because parents are working, don't have stable home environments, don't have stable internet connections, etc. While those are obviously positive, it is in no way a more effective format. It also causes the school to lose all credibility that safety issues remain for teaching to be conducted in person. How can you argue that it isn't safe enough to teach in the class but it is safe enough for kids to be in the classroom? The logic is truly dizzying.

Yes. It isn't safe to return to school until teachers don't have performance reviews and standardized tests are suspended. That clearly leads to viral spread. This is about as scientifically supported as their other arguments.
