Yep, a much better return on investment. A net of 4 new senate seats, whereas a VA split would be negated by the rest of the former state voting nazi.

I think they need to split California isn’t 3 states first.

Why not? It will be dark blue

Easy. DC is an overtaxed horribly run city that’s become more and more segregated between the rich and the poor.

Alexandria has an actual car tax.

Right now Virginia is a blue state with two Dem Senators. If we split, Northern VA has two Dem Senators and Real VA has two Repub ones, canceling us out.

There's a bunch of this pseudo liberal trolling on this site now. Don't be taken in.

When states that are solidly Blue everywhere, like CA, NJ, MA, HI and others, are spilt up into smaller states, the net gain in the Senate is going to be insurmountable. HI, for example - 5 islands. Each becomes its own state. That alone adds 8 additional Senators. Add Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, the USVI, and DC, and that’s another TWELVE Democratic seats in the Senate. And that doesn’t even count the states CA can be split into, adding at least another 8 seats. We’re talking about the potential for dozens of new Senate seats.

So the rest of VA will elect republicans? So what? With a +2/3 majority in the Senate, Dems can send them packing before they even get office furniture ordered.

If you want to add Senators, make DC and PR states (as they should be). If you want to add Dem Senators using existing states then get rid of gerrymandering and impediments to voting: many states would turn blue.

But your plan is unnecessary as well as ignorant of why certain states are blue. California is a red state geographically, with densely populated blue cities, for example: split it up and you will get more little red states. Having impoverished red states intermixed with rich blue states helps no one, except maybe people gerrymandering the country to maintain any kind of Republican presence in the Senate.

Still think you're a troll.

I really DGAF what you think, so let’s get that cleared up right now, Grams.

Secondly, and I’m almost face palming at having to explain this to you, but I will - you don’t split the Blue states in ways that would create red ones. You do it in such a way that there’s a massive Blue city in each one. Put another way ...”duh!”

You’re an obstacle. You seem out ways to keep us from winning. Your best contribution would be to just STFU and sit down.

Arlington and Alexandria were once part of DC. Make it so again.

Virginia is fine the way it is. These threads are a waste of time.

We would probably be the best run state within the union; and envy for others throughout this great country

Oh for the love. Richer parts of the country subsidize poorer parts. That’s just how it works. If you’re not subsidizing the rest of VA, you’ll be subsidizing poorer states.

OP just doesn’t want to subsidize Republicans. As a RoVa Democrat, though, I wonder, OP, what do you think NoVa sacrifices in order to subsidize the rest of the state? What are you lacking that statehood would provide?

Funny. D's control VA state govt. Worst D for NOVA was Gov Tim Kaine , Big D, ex Lt Gov to Warner. Kaine tried to change the funding formula cheating FX out of 61 million. https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/01/10/AR2010011002344.html

"kick in the teeth" from Ch BOS Bulova. Note VA formula does not include the category of students with little or no interrupted formula education. Check out FCPS legislative packages. Top pick for local living is Arlington. Not just location but it is a more manageable size. FX into 2-3 counties would be better. Getting to feel like we live in Philadlphia County whch is the City of Philly.

This could be a way to solve the DC statehood question. DC and NoVa combine to become a new state. The rest of VA combines with WV. Then you still have 50 states.

The Dakotas are separate for political reasons, for example, so it's not without precedent.
