Nissan stinks. CVT transmission is awful. Avoid any car with that. Honda Odyssey is terrible now. So is MdX.

The CVT in my wife's Infiniti has been pretty solid. Of course, automatics of any type are soulless shite.

I owned a Ford Taurus and Toyota Camry at same time. Same model year. The Camry needed slightly less repairs. But parts cost more. It was a wash.

Every brand is going to have the person who "drove the car 200,000 miles" and never had a problem along with the "had a Toyota and it was a lemon". My advice is to do your research. There are some Fords that are excellent and Japanese cars that aren't. It gets down to the model, not the brand. Some of this is the project team at the manufacturer. Another is the dynamics at the assembly plant.

Thank you! Is there any inside info or websites on specific years and models that are considered most reliable and problem free? FYI: I did a lot of research and got a great deal on a used 2004 Honda Odyssey. Other than keeping up with the airbag recalls and a lot of oil pans, it's running great.

The Consumers Reports annual car issue (in April) does a good job with this.

Honda has gone through a tough stretch over the past few years. A lot of car enthusiasts think they've had a drop off in build quality and are riding on their reputation a bit. Ditto with Nissan which is now just a hot mess. For Japanese imports it is still Toyota in the lead with Subaru and Mazda after in terms of reliability. I'm not aware of any specific models by those three manufacturers that have known reliability issues

I have a 2006 and a 2018 Odyssey and the 2006 is still far better than the 2018. The 2018 Odyssey is a piece of junk. I can't wait to get rid of it.

I've owned an Odyssey of some sort since 2006 and currently have a 2018. I find that the body fit and finish have gotten worse, although the current gen is an improvement from the previous gen that I also owned. The panels don't fit flush, with varying gaps, uneven height, and some of the metal panels flex wayyyyy too much when you press on it. Everything else is an improvement, however. What don't you like about the 2018?

If you want sexy and high performance with less reliability, go German or Italian. If you want boring and low performance but reliable go Asian. If you want medium performance but boring and unreliable go American.

I work in the automotive industry for a parts supplier and my cousin is a mechanic. He likes Honda and thinks Volkswagen is the worst.
