OP here, thanks - my 4 year old has been really good about wearing hers at playgrounds, too, and the ones she has fit her really well, so I'm hopeful that the day is going well - fingers crossed!

It took a bit of adjusting for our 4yo, but we were also struggling to find one that fit him well at the time. Once we got that solved, he settled in no problem. Since you've already gotten the fit part figured out, you're ahead on that front.
Like another PP, I'm skeptical that the kids wearing masks really makes that much of a difference overall since they're taking them on and off all day anyway for eating, naps, etc. but it's made mask-wearing part of the routine for DS, and for that I am grateful. No arguments when we go to the playground, occasional store, etc. He just does it.
