Emory is not in league with Duke.

In a similar situation although not immigrants (not that it matters). Our oldest child clearly wanted and targeted a top 10 and honestly it was a perfect fit. We agreed to let him ED and it's been awesome. Second kid less focused and will do fine with flagship state. We are good for retirement and plan to use money second kid didn't spend on academics to help out with business/home purchase to make things more "even". To address your question though, we felt it was why we had been saving all this money - to invest in our kids.

Do you have fall-back schools in case T10 doesn't work out? Full pay is a hook, even for Harvard, so, I think the kid has a good chance. But you never know.

I don’t know where parents come down on Masters degrees in credentialed fields (e.g. teaching, nursing, engineering, PT).

I see this type of comments a lot.. Do HS kids actually know that they will be going to Grad school? How does this tie with what others say that over 50% of the kids change their minds in college as to major?

Choose the best school DC gets into and likes. For some private universities, paying 3 years up front and have the 4th year covered free is an option, BTW
