OP, he is a solid student but UMD is not a safety for him. He will probably get in but, with those stats, it's not a sure thing.

Coming out of MoCo magnets, my kids used UMBC/St. Mary's as safeties but treated UMCP as a target even with top stats
A lot of magnet students go to UMD as their first pick.

My son had BC as one of his targets...ultimately ended up at his first preference reach school.
His safeties were Villanova, Fordham, and Maryland.
It depends on OP's kid's stats...I did not see them posted here.

Surprised that his safety is a while other type of school. There are lower tier privâtes that would be more similar to Bucknell and BU than UMD. Why the discrepancy? I would think it will only add to his disappointment if he has to go to his safety.
