most upperclassman won't use the extra year, most are done by then anyway if they get that far, such a grind

exactly..there are some wonderfully talented 22's and 23's not playing at next level or settling for lesser tier programs because of the current environment. Bad for the sport overall and will create a lot of division going forward. If you are a 22 and not recruited by now, you don't have a chance. If you are a 23 you better be doing all you can to be seen this spring and summer...borderline hopeless and all the while showcases and D1 coaches will be sending emails full of "hope" and asking for you to support their programs and staff by spending thousands on camps and showcases.

Brutal recruiting environment for 22s and 23s. Top programs focused on recruiting second round of graduate transfers vice high school kids and many rosters will be close to 70 for the next 2 years. Top programs also working with boarding schools to stash players to do PG years rather than waste a year of college when they won’t play.

Tough for the 22s this year. No on campus visits and colleges taking smaller classes. Good luck!

Most programs probably are only 2-3 seniors, but then you have UNC, Maryland, Syracuse and ND all either having 4-5 stay and then adding another 2 transfers. But agree, between the NCAA compounding the problems associated with COVID to them not addressing other lacrosse issues like not going to birth year on the boys side or pretending that college coaches aren't economically incented to have a later recruiting date just to milk extra camp dollars out of families, just embarrassing that they are 'governing' body.

Don't most programs just have a player or two staying on? Why would anybody need to play lacrosse that badly? Isn't your whole lifetime up to this point enough already? Those spoiled girls who are asking mommy and daddy to shell out another year of tuition, just so they can play lacrosse?

You're absolutely right. There's a great article in US Lacrosse about how the rich got richer via transfer students and players opting to stay another year, and how coaches must juggle resources. These large rosters are going to reduce the number of kids recruited for the next two classes.

I think its just dreamy that guys get to leave one stellar D1 program to become a grad student at another to try to build a super team. Well done NCAA, seems like a well thought out plan! Morons. Pandemic sucks but no one else gets a chance to repeat 2020. Just realized there's a "reclassed" joke there somewhere

Wait till these coaches start realizing what's going on and de-committing committed 21's and maybe even 22's. They surely won't be able to split less scholarships more than they already have!

Any 2022s that are getting recruited by top programs are very good and very lucky—really tough year.

Yep. Plus the HS juniors and seniors already lost an important season and opportunities so the NCAA is just piling the pain on them.
