My2nd grader does her work in the living room on a lap desk on the floor. I listen in so I can help her if she forgets some instructions. My 5th grader does it on her desk in her room, and I check in on her 2 times during the day.

Someone named Obama and she went on a rant on how he was half white and she also went on a rant on how she hates the BLM, later doing the Video the granddaughter drops the F-BOMB to maybe her Grandma. There was another video of the kids dancing and the teacher yelling at them.

I have to. My child has an IEP and I'm his 1:1 support by default.

We have a small apartment so I hear. I’ve heard something like the OP is referring to , either that or something like like that went viral on TikTok. Crazy.

Funniest thing I heard

What’s that?

Some meditation thing. So I’m using this time to eat my toast

I sit in on math class with my 8th grader once in a while, at her request. The teacher is sometimes difficult to follow so if I hear the lesson, I can then help DD with practice problems during class and homework later on. DD has mild anxiety so asking the teacher for help during class isn't happening, plus there's one student who has pretty much monopolized the available time for questions during the classes I've observed. It's just more efficient for me to be able to help.

No because I’m working full time from home in my workspace, my 17 yo in his space, 13 yo in his space, and DH in a mix along work from home and in office. No one has time to listen to anyone else’s stuff.

I listen to my 7th graders classes because we share an office. They also has anxiety and attention issues so I redirect them sometimes. They are on a 504 plan and it calls for the teachers to do that but in DL that's not possible. I didn't monitor last spring and they got way behind.
My 4th grader has a desk in their room and I pop in once or twice a day to check on them but don't listen in.

Awww, that's so sweet. I didn't like being watched when I practiced my instrument, though I secretly liked it when my parents said something specific about a song they liked.

Please tell me they're not doing band on zoom! There are programs like Jamkazam that help get rid of the lag for playing music together. Zoom would be painful.

Yes. Band is on zoom. Overall, the school is doing an amazing job on distance learning, so I’d rather not complain

No, I don’t monitor. But...JFC.. that’s crazy. Oh well. Welcome to the real world, kids.

Not at all. I haven’t heard a peep of it. I wouldn’t normally hear his class or teacher at school, so I let him do school and I ask questions later.

I have a crazy friend who is listening in and has already emailed multiple times about her 16 year old’s teachers. That is just nuts. Don’t be that person. If something is a problem, let your kid tell you.

No, they watch in their bedrooms. They wouldn’t learn half as much if they knew I was peering over their shoulder or listening in.

No.

My 7th and 9th grader have desks in their bedrooms.

I work in my home office and DH works at kitchen table.

My Office is above one of the kid’s rooms so I can sometimes hear bits and pieces, but I’m not listening.

Thankfully they are 100% capable of doing everything on their own and diligent so I don’t have to follow up or ask about assignments.
