If it is your hoop, yes just ask the kids or the parents to not use until after a certain time. The kids probably have no idea how loud it is. And I would hope your neighbors are supportive of you teaching from home.

If that does not work, find a way to take it down for awhile. Can you turn it backwards?

If yours, it is nice you are sharing it. Apparently from the replies there are a lot of entitled folks that think they simply have the right to use anything.

OP hasn't come back to clarify if it's on her property or not. OP, if this is actually on your property you can either take down the hoop or put something over it to make it unusable. You could leave a short note too, but do not leave a long explanation note from you and your class like someone else suggested. "just something simple like "Do not use, class in session".

If this is not on your property I suggest you get the noise cancelling headphones, the kind that come with the noise reducing mirohphone.

If OP's neighbors wanted to be petty about it, they could call code enforcement. Some areas will fine you for keeping a "large bulky item" in the street or sidewalk.

Many noise cancelling headsets also have a noise reducing microphone set up that filters out other sounds. They are a huge help in the age of Zoom. It might be worth trying one since it will also improve the quality of your voice audio.

Several options:

-Move hoop back into your own driveway.

-Put a note on the hoop explaining that the noise is disruptive to your class and layout acceptable times for playing.

-If it's the same kids who come over every time, pause the class for 1 minute and go talk to them in person about the situation.

Dismantle it. Done.

If the stand for the hoop is on your property, you have every right to tell them not to use it.

If you have it on the street, or in that little strip of grass that is actually owned by the city/county, then you really should move it on to your property.

You set up "your" basketball hoop on public property? Sorry, then you asked for it. If you don't want them using it, you'll need to move it on to your own property.

OP, put a sign on the hoop that says "I'm teaching in my office that looks out on this hoop and my students have complained about the noise. Please don't use this hoop until 3:30 on weekdays. Thanks! Ms A and her chemistry students" or whatever details you need.

You might also just touch base with the other parents on the street to let them know the issue.

It's your home, and it's interrupting your classes. Ask them not to use it until after school. If they keep using it, tell them they can't use it until after school. Put up a sign near the hoop politely reminding them of quiet hours.

If they keep using it, can you take down the actual hoop, or cover the hoop so they can't use it. You're not a jerk for imposing reasonable conditions on the use of your own property; they would be jerks for refusing to be considerate after being explicitly asked.

She is the TEACHER, so presumably she has to speak. She says that her students can hear it. Yes, it is her property and she can ask kids to wait to use it without being a jerk. Allowing people to use your things doesn't mean that she forever gives up any input into its use.
