DH is the same age as one of his stepbrothers and two years younger than the other. Their families blended when he was in 7th grade. They get along fine when they’re together but aren’t close at all and can go years without speaking.

All the kids are competing for their parents attention and more kids are involved and each child gets much less time with the parents. Some kids get along, some don't. Age has nothing to do with it.
