+1. We've been in the West Village for 25 years and I will never leave. So beautiful, slower pace of life, a few really great buildings with amazing amenities or a brownstone if that's your thing (and in your budget), amazing parks and playgrounds, on the water, easy walk to SoHo or Chelsea or Tribeca, a real neighborhood feel, amazing restaurants, GREAT schools, Chelsea Piers (if you have kids - they have so many sports and activities). Way harder to find something good and cheap here but you'll find a great place for 5 mil.

We are seeing much better apartments on the east side so I think we will likely end up moving across town. Our kids are in a private school on the UWS and I would say like 30-40% of the kids are going on the UES. And we have several friends on the UWS who send their kids to school on the east side.
You really can’t go wrong with either neighborhood and they both truly have the same amenities in my opinion.
