There are plenty of parents of Dyslexic kids who post on here that don’t like OG either... It is a tough issue and many parents are super upset about the instruction their kid receives at school from any county. I would look into private tutoring/school. I had a kid I taught who’s brother went to the Lab school For dyslexia and the parents were happy, but honestly Op from just what people post on here, no one is happy in MCPS, LCPS or FCPS with or without OG.
Curious about the parents of dyslexic kids who don’t like OG- what do they prefer?
I think it is more that the parents don’t’ like the kind/level of certification the school system has and therefore feel they need to get an OG tutor who is better trained in their mind. There are different companies that offer different levels of training, so all OG isn’t the same from what I understand.

Anonymous wrote:FCPS is offering Orton gillingham to some students now. If you are not being offered it at your school- call Carrie Leestma in the dyslexia/special ed office and demand it.

Very little training in it and the goals created for dyslexic kids are usually awful. I had one student have a goal to have NO errors after self editing a paragraph. Ridiculous. The kids I know who have made good progress with dyslexia got outside support at Lindamood Bell.
I like this goal. The school will have to keep helping until the student meets it.
It was a first quarter goal in 9th grade. Self editing for zero errors in 5/5 opportunities is not an appropriate starting goal for a student with a disability like dyslexia.
Another teacher who agrees.
Except, I don't like the use of the term "goal." Shouldn't all of us have the goal of writing perfectly? Few may reach it, but shouldn't that be our goal?
I wish they would eliminate that term's usage for this purpose. But, no one will listen to me.
