Since Republicans are all about pulling yourself up by the bootstraps I assume they will decline any such aid on principle.

The “debt” is really just an obligation to the federal government.

The US government can theoretically forgive liabilities owed at any time and it does not affect taxes, spending, etc. This is the definition of funny money. The federal government created money out of thin air, gave it to the university, and the student promised to pay it back. If it’s canceled, it’s as if it never excisred from a budgetary standpoint.

It’s just another form of fiscal stimulus.

I hope the budgets of our classified national skunk works include line items for turning mere lead into pure gold to get us out of the national debt quicksand we find ourselves in.

The greater good people. Stop looking at your own individual situation. We are paying ourselves for DDs university I am OK with this one time deal.

What is even more inexcusable than a surgeon blaming the insurance industry for unaffordable medical expenses is a college professor blaming Government for unrepayable student loan balances.

Why would you expect that? You no longer have student loans.

It's a troll. Just ignore. They spam the same talking point in every thread.

Why is it a troll? Simply because you don’t like the question?

And if everyone continues to pay off their loans they won’t either. Why do they need the money?

Every time we implement a new policy, there are people who could have benefited in the past but will not now. You're not special, just selfish.

It is those wanting others to pay their debt who are selfish.

Why not cancel all forms of debt? What about people that have to put, say, a car repair on their credit car so they can go to work and provide for kids?

DP and definitely not a troll but why not? What if (assuming everything equal) person A dutifully paid off student loans and pushed extra cash (like bonuses) to paying them down sooner, lived modestly, etc. and person B paid bare minimum, defaulted, refinanced or whatever and took lavish trips or bought new cars or put a down payment on a house with cash? Why does person B essentially get to win?

It appears there's a talking point being peppered "all Trump has to do is sign it"

This is really smart on Chuck and Liz. They are giving Trump the credit.

They will let Trump give “a huge gift” to young people in an effort to buy their vote. It puts Congressional GOP in a tough spot, since they too want those young voters.

Well played, Senate Dems.

You believe Chuck and Liz are being genuine? I don't. This is far more aggressive than what's in Biden's presidential promises.

If Biden disavows it, Trump is even more likely to support this “gift.”

Why? Because Trump is a spiteful contrarian - “Jeez, look at Joe. He won’t give it to you, but I will. See, I’m a giver. I give your people the best gifts. Let’s forgive up to $50K and get that economy restarted.”
