At least you get better schools with the property taxes.

Not really!

The answer would depend on whether or not you won the charter lotto. The dcps in Takoma DC for middle and high leave a lot to be desired.

Well, specifically the high taxes for TKPK do not get you better schools necessarily. The town taxes don't go to the schools.

What is Montgomery Blair HS like?

I would agree with the big and impersonal critique of the moco schools. Middle school is the word culprit, and also where I think the gifted programs do the most harm. They're sort of neither fish nor fowl: they offer an accelerated curriculum, but only for half the subjects. My child moved here too late to test into them and their strengths were completely overlooked and never encouraged at the school they attended--becsuse they weren't part of its magnet side.

They still managed to test into a specialized hs program and thrive there, but the legacy of that benign neglect for three years still gets to me.

Where is a 6BR house walkable to the Metro? I live in TKPK, and find this hard to believe...

A troll? Because I thought the same thing. And garages aren’t really a TKPK thing either

Yeah. It seems like someone posted just to try and slam MCPS, which is ridiculous since the TP clusters in one of the best in the entire state. Especially if you get into the gifted and talented+magnet programs. Perhaps one or more of their children didn't make the cut?

Try again. Our charter was much better sadly. The schools here are huge and impersonal and overcrowded.

Well, I'll be. I just looked and, indeed, there was a 6 Br/5ba sold in TKPK within a mile of the metro. Great deal.

Sadly, I agree that the schools here in MoCo are a disappointment. Might just be my expectations, but I have not been impressed.

I’m also finding that hard to believe on that budget. You get more bang for your buck in TKPK but not THAT much more. We upgraded from a 4 bed 3.5 bath row house in NE DC to a 5 bed 4.5 in SS and still had to spend almost $150k more. TKPK would have been even more expensive.

Presumably your NE DC house didn’t sell for as much as our NW DC house.

Bloomingdale is more expensive than our neighborhood, but ours still sold for $950. Did you some how find a delusional buyer to pay well over a million for a 3/1? There’s nothing comparable to that in bloomingdale right now even in this crazy market, by the way. Like, nothing’s even close.

It’s slightly under a mile to the metro which is walkable to me. Not a troll.

Try Sligo Park Hills, it is surrounded by Takoma Park, same schools for middle and High although the Elementary is a little rough around the edges but no TP taxes. Backs to Sligo Park and equal distance to TP metro and Silver Spring.
