Parent of 11u and high school NVTBL players here. I’ve heard a total of 12 teams have been suspended at this point, but no idea what age or location, or — most importantly — for what. A single game of bad choices? A pattern of poor compliance? Reports by parents or coaches? Or observed by NVTBL officials?

What teams were suspended?

Wonder if any teams are non-compliant today. One of our teams said that opponents in PW were not social distancing at all. Not sure if those opponents were suspended.

Not baseball but fall Rec softball at a school today and a police care drove around the school twice while we were there for our game. Is that what he was doing? Checking for distancing?

Highly highly doubtful

The DC based teams are really good with some instituting protocols above what the league requires. I think they are just happy to be playing because DC is still shut down and they don’t want to mess anything up. From what I understand the DC teams are unable to even have full practices, which is crazy. The teams further from the beltway seem more lax with full dugouts, few masks, etc.

Tryouts were illuminating. Some teams didn’t stop practicing in spring when we didn’t know much about COVID. (We know a few kids in those teams.) It really made me think about how morally, and possibly mentally, off some parents, players and coaches are.

In summer DC’s team did pretty well. A couple players and parents balked loudly on occasion. DC’s new fall team? Parents spread out and sit behind the extended bench along the baselines. Most players and coaches however aren’t as careful once the game begins. Two NVTBL teams I saw this weekend we’re definitely in violation of the leagues safety protocols are: spacing. Like 4 players to a 10x10 tent, tents abutting one another, some tents with families and players under them. I’m sure they thought they were spread out outside the dugout and farther apart than usual. The problem is that the tree line is practically on top of outfield fence. It isn’t pleasant out there. However, the home team probably should limit fans to one per player.

OP, my spouse was the COVID parent for DS’ team this summer. I would say the most important thing is to have the backing of the coach. Is the coach going to refuse play to a kid that repeatedly doesn’t complete the forms or just shrug it off, is he going to back you up if you have to tell parents to either spread out and or stop coming to games?

We actually had no issues, and the teams we played against also adhered to the rules, generally. We were horrified though by the behavior of some other teams in our same organization on other fields, both parents and coaches. It’s very coach and team specific. One of the easiest rules seems to be to prohibit anyone from being behind the plate (fence) unless they’re the parent scorekeeper, including either moving out or roping off any bleachers. That’s where everyone usually wants to sit and if you keep that free, that pushes parents to the outfield fence and, if you have the fence marked properly, it’s much easier for people to spread out and much easier to see if they’re complying. The base lines are usually almost completely taken up with the players spread out in chairs.

The league and county health officials ARE making impromptu visits to fields.

Please tell your parents to comply and don't ruin the season for all of us!!

Call and email your elected representatives to relax the restrictions and send our kids back to school and back to activities.

NP - You sound like a stereotypical jock parent, the type that would say, it’s just a concussion, let the kid play. Suck it up, kid.

And you sound like a wimp. Over 1300 different lawsuits have been filed across the country regarding the over-extension of government's powers in restricting our freedoms. You may want to live in a communist society where elected officials ignore the law but I don't. MD had set up protocols for easing restrictions but they ignore them to whatever degree they decide. When will it end? Take a look around you nerd and wake up.

I think the pp was purposefully using those terms to reply to the stupid "stereotypical jock parent" comment.

And I don't know but this part of the definition of communism seems to be fitting more and more in lockdown areas. b: a totalitarian system of government in which a single authoritarian party controls state-owned means of production.

I think you should look up what communism means.

Also, nerd? 1984 called. It wants you back.
