+1 from NY, would normally say the letters. Went to Georgetown and had friends in the program. All called it Rotsy.

Also from CA, and a Military family. We always say each letter. Have never heard anyone say rotsy.

Growing up in Southern California, we always spelled out the letters at our ROTC in my high school.

Only when I went to college on the East Coast, did i hear referred to as “Rotsy.”

It varies by region.

I have heard it both ways. My Navy husband did ROTC and says each letter individually. I do think that I have heard more army people call it "rotsy"

I worked at a university that had "regular" (army) ROTC, along with Navy and Air Force ROTC. I always heard people call the regular army one Rotsy but the others were spelled out N-R-O-T-C and A-F-R-O-T-C

I grew up in Md in a county that owed its prosperity to the local navy base. We always spelled it. I had no idea what people were talking about when I first heard it pronounced as a word.

My dad did ROTC in undergraduate and was drafted for Korea. He says rotsy.
