I was in a mall in a rural area of Pennsylvania once, when my baby was less than a year, and as we strollered by an ice cream counter, the woman working called out to us all excited and said, wait, we have special cones for babies! And she got this tiny little ice cream cone and filled it with soft serve and handed it to me. I was so startled I gave it to him. I don't remember if the baby liked it or not. But better than filling the baby bottle with Coke I guess.

Reminded me of when we bought DS a baby ice cream cone at DQ, he was close to 10 months. Guess it looked kinda like a bottle to him so he mashed it into his face and started crying. Gave it to someone who had brought their dog to DQ.

You would never have survived my family. Their reaction would be to wonder why she waited six months to give ice cream. Kids got fingers full of frosting, sips of soda, so many things. And everything turned out ok. Oh and why do they do it? They love ice cream and they want the babies in the family to have the things they love. It’s actually sweet when they get excited by the smiles from the babies.

My MIL brags about feeding her 4th (who, it turns out, is lactose intolerant) ice cream at 6 weeks. It was decades ago, so maybe she’s not remembering it accurately.
