He finished the Hunger Games and really liked it. I put a lot of the other recommendations on hold at the library for curbside pickup. So far the first book in Alex Horowitz / Stormbreaker series was available and the first Ranger's apprentice. He read both of those and asked me to get the rest of the books in both of those series.

I actually want to read Divergent myself, too, haha.

I read the Hunger Games myself (years ago) - I haven't read The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes yet - has anyone read it? Do you recommend to both of us?

I haven't read it yet, but DD (age 13) read it this summer and liked it a lot, though not as much as the orginal three books.

Both my kids have read most of the books you listed. They recommended: Ender's Game, Divergent Series, Hunger Games Series, in that order.

Yes!! My DD loved them so much last year (6th grade) she actually read them again a second time this summer!

She also loved the series listed by OP, but surprised me by branching out a bit, too. Here are some other series she's liked:

Chasing Vermeer
Hunger Games
Divergent
Spy in the Silver Palace, by Jordan Rivet (and another of Jordan Rivet's series - not sure which one)

Just an FYI, I haven't read any of these except Hunger Games, so I'm not sure how violent they are or whether they include any overt romance/sex or other more YA themes . . . .

My 5th grader has read and loved a lot of the same series and he has loved several series by Margaret Peterson Haddix — Shadow Children, The Missing, and Children of Exile.

Another vote for Ranger's Apprentice. It's made for kids like him and there are a TON of super-long books in the series so he can read and re-read to his heart's content.
