Thank him for mowing the lawn on a hot day, have his preferred beverage ready (cold beer), encourage him to chill and shower, offer a massage and see what happens.

I would never have assumed that! Nor would I ever have considered that before picking a BF up at the airport as a surprise. But I suppose if the circumstances were right ~ !

My first real love was a HS senior and a year ahead of me but vastly more worldly, sophisticated, and well read — we discussed at length her many favorite writers and the books she thought would most appeal to me; I read them all lovingly with her never far from my mind, even though it took years, and even though she dumped me the summer after graduation. I taught HS English for a few years after college, attributable in no small part to our romance, and to her great taste in books.

Before we got engaged my wife did a bunch of romantic things - non sexual. Since then I can’t really recall one. But we’ve been happily married a long time and we do plenty of sexual romantic things so no complaints from me.

One summer during college, I was stranded without a car in the town my parents had moved to earlier that year. One weekend, my parents went out of town, leaving me by myself -- no car, no friends.
My girlfriend showed up unannounced that Saturday morning. She'd driven the 90 miles or so to surprise me.
I mean, it did lead to quite a bit of sex. (20 year olds alone in a house for a weekend, duh!) But the showing up unannounced to surprise me was the romantic part!
