Like PPs my ADHD son can talk a thousand words a minute, spilling from idea to idea. I think DL has made everythign worse. He's exraoverted and misses being with other kids. He's used to sharing information verbally with teachers and of course on DL they have to mute all the lines, so he gets no chance to do this "sharing." So I am his audience and I am w.o.r.n. out.
I do tell him that I'm introverted and I need more quiet than he does. I tell him when too many ideas spill together I can't stay with his ideas, becasue I need time to process and absorb ideas, which he does not. I talk to him about differences between people, to help him imagine why sometimes I get lost or don't hear him (which makes him mad) or why sometimes when I'm driving the car, I can't handle his information.
I like the advice about what good conversational skills look like. I will try to find ways to suggest that he pause and let the other person says something, suggest he watch to see if they are interested or able to receive information, and read their face when the information is too much.
At the end of the day, he's obviously going to become an auctioneer or a newscaster or a morning show host. He's just going to need a career where talking a lot is a good thing!
