My OB told me that the mini pill is only 90% effective which seems like terrible odds if you’re trying to prevent a pregnancy? Like “oh good, only 1 in 10 women will accidentally create another human being”

Closer to 99% with perfect use. Average use 90%.

Perfect use means taking it exactly the same time every day. You miss a day and you're unprotected for a week. Hence oops babies.

I used it for years and no oops babies. It doesn't give you the clotting and stroke risk like the estrogen ones. I just set a timer to take it at the same time every day. Not that hard.

Congratulations, OP!

Ditto. We needed fertility treatments to get pregnant with our first, got pregnant with our second the fourth time we had sec postpartum, never even got my period back in between. We joke the baby willed himself into existence. He is the sweetest happiest baby I've ever met and I thank the universe every day.

Congrats, OP! I'm sure it's super overwhelming. I would have felt the same. But now that I'm out of the baby/toddler stage and no longer so stressed and exhausted, I really wish I had gone for #3. It may be a rough few years and harder here and there, but the benefits last a lifetime. A sibling is a precious gift.

I got tubal ligation when I had my c-section for my second. Not going to leave it up to DH to get a vasectomy.

Congratulations, OP! Not what you were planning for, but you're taking it in stride. I'm sure it will be challenging, but you sound prepared for it.

My main bit of advice is to keep the fact that this is an "oops baby" to yourself. I was an "oops baby" and knew it my whole life. My parents regularly talked about it, mentioned it to friends/strangers, etc. Although they were fantastic parents and loved me very much, it made me feel unwanted. I vowed I would never do this with a kid of mine if they were an "oops."

You shouldn't have answered this. They were trolling to derail your thread.

My DS was an ooops baby. Who knew that switching to a low dose pill wouldn't work? My ex was supportive but we broke up. My DD is now 15 and she is the very best decision I made but didn't plan for.

I personally like the mini pill because it has no side effects and is easy to use. That said, I'm okay with oops babies.
