The crate in our bedroom always had a dog bed, a couple of dog toys, and a bowl of water.

This except no water at night. Depending on the dog we stopped closing the crate anywhere from 6-18mo depending on if the dog reliably was not destructive. We had one dog that was a big cheese so he was in the locked crate until probably 18mo and from then on used the open crate as his bed at night. Current dog was much more trustworthy and we stopped using the locked crate at about 4mo. In all cases our dogs have slept in our room. They are pack animals.

No. They are pets, not farm animals. Why would they need to be in a crate? Bizarre.

No, two big dogs. Sleep on main level on dog beds.

No, not even as a puppy.
Our labra-doodle had free reign of house except for the beds- she had her own on the floor.

I only used a crate for house training.
Both our dogs sleep where they want. In the winter thats usually on our bed, sometimes the lab sleeps on DDs bed.
In the summer they sleep on the floor.

No, just when he was a puppy. I do think they need a safe retreat, but ours goes under the bed when he wants that.

How does this work out? Our dog sleeps with us too but if my DH even puts his arm around me, our dog drops a toy or a bone between us and tries to engage us in playing with him. The dog has killed our sex life.

Lol! Our dog does the same and we just ignore him. Once we are, um, touching each other, he gets the message and jumps off the bed

Honey, is that you?

Our dogs have always slept in their crates after we kick them off the bed when we go to sleep. Our current dog will huff and grumble at us until we actually shut the door to his crate. If we leave it open he gets anxious and wakes up at small noises.

How much time does she spend in the crate normally? If she is crated all day, I wouldn't do it at night too.

I think crating the dog at night is fine. But why doesn't your husband want the dog out and about or upstairs at night?

Dog sleeps in her dog bed in a closed off room of the house. Have never owned a crate. Does not get up on any furniture except for 1 sofa in the family room where we watch tv.

No. We did until he was potty trained (about 6 months). Beyond then, I don't care where he sleeps as long as I know he won't be peeing on the floor while we were sleep.
