I don’t have much advice for now but know they will chill out. When my cat was younger he was obsessed with human food. One Thanksgiving he stole my slice of fake vegetarian turkey roast straight off my plate, which was in my lap, and ran off with it. He’d tear through bags of bread to eat it at night if it wasn’t in a cabinet. He’d want to sit and wait for the toast to pop up from the toaster so he could grab it. Now at 3 he still likes food and sniffs around when we’re eating hoping for a bite but he’s not aggressive about it anymore. The worst he does is lick the butter if it accidentally gets left uncovered at night.

What an insane view

Some cats are "trainable" and others are not. The two we have now get up on everything no matter what I've tried. Just had to give up.

This is a common tip but I'd be careful with it. Our 5mo kitten loves aluminum foil, to the point of trying to eat it. Which would cause a blockage and a big vet bill.

OP, I'd second the question about how much you are feeding your kittens and if they might just be hungry. They need a LOT of food. Our kitten has dry food always available and wet food on demand. It seems like he wants to munch something about every 2 hours or so when awake. There are a few people foods he's interested in (cheese, primarily) but generally he leaves it alone. Cookies and bananas don't usually interest cats.

The cookie sheets are a good idea. I've seen people have success with tin foil as well.

Why are cats considered clean animals, because they lick themselves?

Because dogs will actually roll in poop or any rotten thing they find in addition to eating it. Cats are 'clean' by comparison.

I have a home that has an open doorway between LR and DR/Kitchen. I eventually had to purchase a folding screen and block off the DR/Kitchen. I was tired of seeing little paw prints all over the stove top and opening food that was on counters.

They knew not to go in kitchen when I was watching, but they did what they wanted when no one was home and during the night when everyone is asleep. Much better and cleaner now.

Unfortunately, cats are quick learners. Yes, despite the traditional wisdom of dumb and lazy. They have figured out plastic bags have food and bags are kept on the counter. You need to hide the bags from now on. Segregate the cats when eating your dinner.

They *might* eventually stop looking. However, cats like to hunt for things. Try to distract them by hiding food in toys where you would like them to be (on the floor I presume.)

This. Do they have plenty of cat food out all the time? The foods you mention are not foods that typically attract cats.

The cookie sheet idea is good. An alternative is a sheet of cardboard.
Also consider putting a "wall" of cereal boxes/plastic cups/bowls/boxes around the perimeter of the counter.
