We've paid $4K-$8K, depending on the location / difficulty of access, girth, type of tree, or how many large upper branches need to be trimmed off before taking down the main trunk.
Far less if you get someone who doesn't bring their own insurance.

I recommend Bartlett in MoCo. We had four large trees removed, in difficult locations. They removed everything for 8k, which seems like a lot, but these were huge trees. We left stumps, but they were cut down very close to the ground, and all excess wood was removed. In and out in one day, fully insured and a well established company. Very minimal impact to our neighbor, yard, and street.

We just paid $750 with no stump removal. Tree was dead so not leaves or smaller branches.

Agree with getting estimates. The location of the tree matters a lot too. We paid a lot more to remove a massive walnut from our backyard that had to be taken down with tree climbers and hand-held equipment because there was no way to safely access the back with a crane. All of the removal was by hand too.

Tell all the companies that you are getting multiple estimates. IF you have a preferred company that is high, you can always tell them the amount of the lowes estimate and see if they will match it.

Agree with others to get multiple estimates. We paid half of what the next lowest estimate was.
