My son was earlier registered in Briar woods high. That was cancelled and i reregistered him in Louisa County high school for Aug 29th. Yesterday i noticed that it is cancelled in Louisa county high school too. We have not received any email yet. Would we even receive an email? Should my son continue to prepare? Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

Attended a prepping for college seminar over the weekend (online). The presenters noted that the SAT/ ACT boards have no power over availability at schools who may decide to close at the last minute based on local schools oversight / local COVID conditions They noted that universities/ colleges understand that this is a real problem this year. It was clear there is much more availability for ACT tests this fall than SAT test dates. You can take tests on Sundays when there seems to be more availability from what they are hearing from student families.

Superintendent Brabrand has repeatedly said he plans to allow the SAT test in FCPS schools. This is quoted directly from the FCPS website, Superintendent Return to School Update on August 4th:

We will proceed with the scheduled August 29 SAT testing at several FCPS high schools.

I have my kid registered for the ACT in September, and twice for the SAT in October. Hopefully, one of those will happen.

So far it looks like most if not all the FCPS schools are still on for this Saturday, although they can still cancel at the last minute. Crossing fingers and knocking on wood like crazy.

Charlottesville was also cancelled. Maybe the DMV is not a good area to take the exams. Any ideas for states that are still administering the SATs. Maybe we'll try there for the next one.

OP here: test center was Forest Park HS in Prince William County, VA


This is the same school district that cancelled DCs ACT. I think they eliminate students who are not in their county.

My DC was kicked out of the July 18 ACT with no notice. When I spoke to the ACT rep they told me in that case - the school chooses the students to eliminate. DC was scheduled at a Prince William Cty school, but wasn't a student there, so the ACT rep told me thats probably how the students were picked. Best bet is to lobby your own school, school district to give the school day SAT so your own student is prioritized. Thats what a lot of the private schools are doing so just their students take the test in their own school. Probably helps with any liability issue also.

Some will worry about those kids who are low-income, having to work too, making lower grades as a result, but acing the SAT or ACT which helps them break through. But there’s got to be another way to help those kids shine through without subjecting hundreds of thousands of kids to these tests.

A lot of it will depend on how the next 1-2 years of choosing students and their subsequent success rate goes, without the tests. Most applications this coming year will be test-optional with no test results. If they are still able to put together an admitted batch that performs successfully, at about the same rate as always, without the SAT or ACT as part of the application, I bet it will be gone for good.

CB is rendering itself unnecessary. It’s going to find itself litigated out of existence and universities are going to end up taking SATs out of consideration for acceptance decisions.

DDs test center in PA is not closed but she’s just decided to go test optional this year. We think the long drive coupled with wearing masks for 4 hours and the stress of a last minute cancellation is not worth it.

Thank you PP. There are A LOT of closed centers in VA! So far DD’s center is still open. Will keep checking.

And completely crappy of the CB. That is what happens when a private business or two have the monopoly on a viable resource.
