Pp here. Baby showers are not a thing in my culture but weddings are which is why weddings get way more $$$

My family is reversed. I spend like 1000 on weddings but 200 on babies.

I spent like 400-500 for siblings kids, but it wasn't a hardship and it matched our family culture. I spent way less on wedding presents and much much less for the kids subsequent birthdays fwiw. But, there is a huge range on what is appropriate for these situations.

Same. Sibling is like 200 bucks, friends 50 ish, coworkers I throw 25 bucks into the group gift.

Do what feels right to you. I think common immediate family gifts at the showers I go to seem to be the car seat, stroller, etc.

We make 300k and siblings probably make 100k. We give what we want to give. I don’t care what they gave me. I got married very young at 24. We are the oldest and not one sibling even gave us a gift (they were too young). We still gave them lovely gifts.

I do try to match Christmas gift amounts though since we open all together. We spend about $100 per couple and they spend that on us. It’s enough so that gifts are nice but not extravagant.


This was me. My sister was oldest, married at 24, I am youngest. I made up for it over time being a super auntie who bought many presents.

Off topic but her oldest daughter (college freshman) recently gave me a TY note and gift after I loaned her my car for a week - No hardship
I’m quarantining with my newborn. It was the most thoughtful thing and I was SO proud/impressed by her.

My other sibling and I went in together on the stroller, so $500 each. But it wasn’t a hardship. Do what you can comfortably afford.
