Ok but after 15 absences, your child will be unenrolled from school.

Oh noez!!!! So should I just log in and leave it running in the background?

MM was awful over zoom. Fun for the teacher maybe but it is absolutely terrible on a zoom call with 25 kids.

Maybe do it with smaller groups rather than the whole class?
Or advocate for meeting outside?

I agree with this. If you do so, you impact your child’s ability to connect with their teacher and class and make it harder for their teacher to know them and what they need if content gets difficult or they’re having a bad day. It does not benefit them to miss this but attend math. What parents think is “silly” is often the most important part of what we do.

My ES kids only have limited attention cycles for screen-based learning. If you think those cycles should be spent on home room instead of a core subject, then we’ll need to make that decision. They’re not doing full days no matter what, so we need to maximize the impact.

We skipped a lot of 3rd grade distance learning last semester because it was so lame. Her report card reflected it, though, with lower grades than usual.

We decided to change schools and they didn’t have her last semester grades when they admitted her. But it might have hurt her otherwise.

Full day consecutive absences. I don’t care if my children attend all of the afternoon wrap ups or miss a morning meeting here or there. They need to log on for the academics. Relationships are built working classes too. - a teacher with two kids

Fcps will do what it takes to make attendance numbers look good.

Well you have parents on here saying their kid will only do math. They clearly don’t care about LA or SS/Science

Anonymous wrote:I asked my DW and she said, “I don’t care. I’ll just have to mark them absent. That’s the time they can build relationships though.” It was just a matter of fact statement.

I don’t know if I’d be ok with it. Part of me thinks if I am taking the time to do Morning Meeting it would be nice for everyone to attend. DL isn’t something I want to do, but I’ll make the best of it. The other part of me is just settled on doing whatever I am told I have to do and letting administration handle the rest.

OP here, thank you for this - I didn't think about the building relationships part.

Yeah no. Although if you wonder why there's anger, just look at comments like these.

I agree that those are community building times. We are going to work hard to foster relationships even in this distanced environment so those are important.
