Women are sharing their opinions and of course society can't have women express anything but, rainbows and unicorns or otherwise we are "bitter" or "angry." The majority of women have to fake the niceness all the time or we are told that we are a bitch. Here is the one place we can tell people what we think and nobody knows us so it is a safe place. Very good point. This forum also draws trolls whose goal is to stir up hate. Hate-filled, racist posts filling threads in recent months are anomalies and not typical DCUM posts. DCUM isn't the forum it was last year.

I have one younger sister. Growing up all she did was copy my behavior, tag along with me and friends, and essentially was a royal pain in the ass. As adults, we barely tolerate each other, but, she's a narcissist and I can't take her except in small doses.

One sister took her life in her mid 40s- my parents still play favorites to my other sister is a narcissist and who is sucking all of their money out by "investments" of 200K, taking over all their accounts yet my parents think she is brilliant. I think the real question is will having good mentally and emotionally stable parents make you happier.

My sister and I barely spoke through any of our pre-teen through 30s years. We hated each other in our 20s - barely spoke when we were forced to see each other at family events, never contacted each other outside of them. Mid to late 30s we started gradually speaking again. 40s now, we call each other 3 or 4 times a year. Still only see each other at family events.

So I can't say that my sister makes me happy. But .... I am a very happy person. And having a sister is probably one of the things that helped shape my personality. Having a sister forced me to learn to share and compromise. Doing that doesn't make me happy ... But I'm a happy person because I know how to do them. If that makes sense?

I have four sisters and we all live within two blocks of each other, along with our best friends. It's like an unofficial sorority. I'm very happy, but I've never NOT had a sister.

Yes. My sister and I are VERY different people — she’s shy, bookish, sweet, never had any interest in marriage or kids; I’m outgoing, sarcastic, married, three kids. I doubt we’d be friends if we weren’t related, and we don’t call each other just to chat or anything like that. BUT we do try to get together once a month even just for dinner and I always enjoy that. She is also an excellent aunt to my kids. So while I wouldn’t say we are particularly close in the way that some sisters are, I do always feel very happy after spending time with her so the study is accurate for me. (I admittedly didn’t read beyond the headline.)

Nope. We never really got along growing up (only 17 months apart) and as adults we both chose to move to opposite coasts. I talk to her maybe once or twice a year, and and we see each other once every 2-4 years when we overlap at mom and dad’s for a holiday.

There’s no real bad blood, we just have zero common interests or similar beliefs. If we weren’t related, we’d have no reason to interact.

Our parents played us off each other so there was a lot of rivalry. We don’t speak anymore.

My sister died and I miss her terribly.

My brother, on the other hand, I can't stand. He's a narcissistic asshat.

Yes, my sister is wonderful.

Nope. We are very different people, and I don't particularly like her. If she weren't related to me and we met socially, I would go out of my way to avoid spending time in her company.
