Genuine question; do you expect her to stay for the long term when there are so many better options right now?

I made more than that 10 years ago in normal times. I can't imagine any decent nanny accepting that these days when there is so much demand and you're dealing with the extra stress of parents wfh over your shoulder all day and not being able to go anywhere or do anything.

I think you should reevaluate whether what you're offering is competitive, if not for her, for yourself if you don’t want to be scrambling for childcare when she quits.

It’s very clear, an excellent nanny isn’t accepting $17/hr for two kids. People settle for what they can afford. Nannies settle when they can’t make a decent amount bc no one else will hire them.

There’s a reason why they aren’t being hired. There’s a reason why nannies accept cash. None are positives.


There are plenty of nannies who actually prefer cash to getting taxable income. Plenty of great ones and ones that will accept less than $20/hr.


Newsflash, if they were great they would accept great jobs at great wages. A nanny that prefers not to follow the law or consider/plan for their future...yeah, they sound really smart.

If she was worth more she would be paid more. A nanny who knows their worth isn’t out there taking crap $17/hr jobs.

We pay $25/ hour for three kids (although the third kid will hopefully go back to school at some point and her rate would not go down if that happens). Guaranteed hours of 50 hours/ week so guaranteed 10 OT hours a week

No flaming. Just pointing out that what PP is paying is not competitive and might cost her her childcare. This is a thread asking for advice, so I felt it important to note that PP is paying well below market for a legal, on the books, reliable nanny for 2 children, mid-pandemic. OP would do well to keep that in mind.
