Two things have been proven over the last four months. The percentages of two groups of people are Much larger than I had thought.
1. Selfish people
2. Stupid people
It is that selfish group that are really kicking us right now. They know the rules but can't be bothered. They are worried about fogging their glasses or the mask exacerbating their asthma. They can't be bothered to pull the mask over their nose.
The stupid people by and large you can approach and they will wear a mask properly, they are just stupid and did not realize it had fallen. This does not include the militant groups on either side of the spectrum. They are selfish.
While it is true that science denying, government hating Trumpster conservatives are responsible for 150,000 Covid 19 deaths and countless lives that are forever disabled from the coronavirus, I have learned from living in Columbia Heights during the pandemic is that anti-masking spans all races, ages, genders and income levels. I am infuriated to see so many people walking around the neighborhood not wearing masks. Even around the busy parts near 14 and Irving.
Residents of my building have generally done a very good job making sure they wear masks while on the property, there's always a pair of guys and one woman who refuse to wear masks when on the property.
Same in my neighborhood in NE. No stereotype has a monopoly on mask stupidity.

And you simply cannot ask somebody to raise their mask over their nose or they will whip out a camera and Karen you. Just not worth it.
The selfish have won. It has been coming for a while, but COVID put it over the top.
What if wearing a mask is actually the selfish act? Maybe we all need to risk and sacrifice getting ill with Covid in order to create immunity for the rest of society and help get the economy back on track. It’s kind of like stuffing your money in a mattress (which some people think is wise in times of financial distress) vs. buying goods (which helps others) or putting your money in a bank or in the market (where it can circulate and be used by others). Maybe everyone’s fear, isolation, and mask fetish is actually prolonging the epidemic all under the selfish act of protecting oneself.
Uh, no.
Uh, yes.

The vaccines will be here before any conceivable herd immunity. It would take a year or more for herd immunity (at a 60% level) to develop.
