The real issue here is not his white fragility but the fact that the latest combination of protests, violence and the huge decrease in the MPD budget will speed up white flight to the suburbs and you will have a lot of wealthier whites leaving. There is going to be a lot of disposable income leaving the district for the suburbs over the next few years and that is not good for an urban area when that money leaves. There are a lot of businesses that are already struggling from the pandemic and the economic shutdown that might have survived but will die over the next couple of years as money leaves the area.

Plus he also says he gave up on Metro and switched to Uber. So his "soul-crushing commute" is an Uber ride? Oh no, how trying.

He's just a miserable person blaming the city and BLM for the fact that his life is unfulfilling. I don't where he thinks he's going to move that will make him happier. The burbs are going to give him a hellish commute without all the little city amenities he thinks BLM is depriving him of ("oh no, there's a street mural outside my favorite tea place, however will i drink tea now?!"). Another city is going to have all the same issues of DC, many with even worse dysfunction between the city and the people and the cops.

Anyway, good riddance. If enough of these people leave, maybe we'll actually be able to address some of DC's problems.

Guess the theme is that “live and let live” has turned into “live and must give” with all the non-stop performative acts of protest.

Didn’t understand that at all either. Both DH and I walk 10-15 minutes to work so we have tons of free time that I didn’t have when I lived in NoVa. That rant was incoherent.

That was some of the most nonsensical, worst writing I have ever read. What was its point?

I think he's exactly right. And I love living in DC.

Plenty more will be following him out of the city.

He sounds exhausting, I hope he's not my new neighbor!

People come and people go. That is the nature of cities.

It’s odd how many times he says his departure is DC’s loss. It’s like some creepy guy telling his ex-girlfriend she’ll be nothing without him after she dumps him.

Government led empathy is more like it and we need more of it. If we had more maybe we wouldn't be at 4M covid cases.

Lots of us leave DC when living in the suburbs or a more interesting city becomes the more attractive option. We usually don’t make a big fuss about it.

This reads more John Da Idiot than Joan Didion.
