I agree that white cabinets and marble are classic in their own right but that specific combination has been everywhere and it’s fatigued.

I have no special insight but I also def think that the white cabinet/marble countertop look seems dated now. And yes of course elements of it are "timeless" whatever that means - but the combo that you've seen all over HGTV for five-plus years now seems out of date to me. Not that it can't still look nice! But if you don't want your house to look like a museum of 2018home reno shows, I would try to add your own twist to it - a different countertop or not-white cabinets of whatever.

I personally really like natural wood. I have no idea if that's the next trend.

So if that look is out, what are people doing now? Personally I think white cabinets are timeless. The question is what to put on the counters and backsplash.

This combination is out. I did my kitchen in this style 11 years ago and have friends who did it 15+ years ago. It’s had a good run. I do think that white cabinets are fairly timeless. The “in” style of the cabinet changes though. I think shaker is still current but who knows what the next thing will be. More people are starting to do painted and wood stained cabinets. Marble is classic, as are white subway tiles. However, the combo of the three is looking kind of tired and overdone. If you love the white plus marble look, perhaps do a different backsplash. Or, if you have an island, do a different color for the island.

+1 I remodeled my kitchen 8 years ago; colored cabinets (not brown). I love color in the house. I despise the white/gray look in the kitchen. IMO, gray is depressing. That combo also reminds me of bathrooms color schemes.

We have light colored quartz counter top.

Subway tiles have always looked cheap. When they go out of style they will look even cheaper.

It’s out. You are just in time to find out your new kitchen is yesterday’s look.

The good thing about it is that white is bright and neutral. It's pretty easy to live with even when out of style. We had a bathroom from the 70s that was done in all white tile and we opted not to renovate it, but just paint the walls, because it had aged so well. By contrast, cherry cabinets and black granite or Tuscan is a lot of look. It's hard to work around in your decor and determines the whole color scheme of the room/home.

IMO, the only "classic" kitchen is one that fits the style of the home. We have a 1930s Cape and I plan to do historic looking cabinets in a neutral with a beadboard backsplash. It's not trendy, but should match the house and be harder to date. We previously live in a 1920s row house with an historic looking kitchen that was 10 years old when we bought and iw would be 16 years old, but it is still 100% perfect for the home. That kitchen will fit the house forever. That's harder to do with a 1980s or 90s colonial or McMansion, but works for older homes.

Still white cabinets. Quartz or gray marble.

Tuscan look is out. The yellow/brown granite (starter home look) is out.

Cherry cabinets and black counters 🤢

Ewwww. No thanks!

Chevron tiles and a barn door? Unless you are doing a reno every five years to follow trends, pick what you like and go for it.

Some will say the upper cabinet look is out and is replaced by shelves.

The problem is that look only works if you have a very large kitchen with a separate walk in pantry where you store your stuff and a very large house.

The average size kitchen in an average size house, say 2500' or less really needs upper cabinets for storage. Cutesy shelves are not practical.
