Maybe it is the home environment causing that and not the school

Do you think there aren't other kids suffering or is it only kids that are low income, or minorities, or behind on school, "the poors", or violent abusive parents? We are a large and diverse school system with lots of different kinds of students. There are posts on this forum about HS sports I don’t read those carefully or post on them because my kid is not an athlete. I would never dream of telling those parents that their concern for their children is entitled or wrong. We can care about all children surely? I am so glad MCPS has tried to get food to students in need, I worry about how students with learning difficulties/differences are navigating a new learning environment, I wonder how ESOL students are maintaining their hard won gains in language fluency. I would hope that as a parent you could understand that gifted children also have needs that deserve to be addressed

under the circumstances, I'm grateful for DL since these problems albeit annoying seem minor when compared to the potential effects of COVID.

And for you they are annoying and minor. For me these very real, very severe problems are a much more significant long term risk for my child and my family than the infinitesimally smaller risk of a serious outcome with COVID for them. In the long run safeguarding their mental health is more important.

I'm running a summer program and we hired extra instructors to serve the same number of students once we realized it would be all online. To run a strong online program that really engages students is a lot of work and you need small groups if you are trying to build any kind of community.

Yes! Class size is a much bigger issue for distance. It’s so much harder to check in and break kids in to groups and give feedback.
