I was a long time UB user but since I live in the DC area I came here about a year ago to DVUM and rarely use UB since. UB ended up such an angry, troll filled, sock puppet filled nightmare. Jeff shuts down trolls and sock puppeting here (answering your own posts pretending to be someone else). It’s way better.

My practice is to be responsive to the users. So, I would let other UB refugees (I hope that is an acceptable name for you folks) state their preference and then I would adhere to that. If most users want all the NYC topics to be in this forum regardless whether they are political, about schools, about restaurants, or whatever, that is fine with me. You obviously still retain the option of posting in our other forums. If you want more subforms created for NYC, I can do that as well. Consider this your forum rather than my forum and tell me how you want it to be operated.

I’m a long time DCUMer who occasionally peeks in on urbanbaby and YBM since I’m a former NYer and those fora amuse me to no end.
This format is so much better than those, trust me, you will adjust. Also, while there is definite bitchiness here, we don’t achieve the level of bitchiness in NY.
And Jeff is a great moderator.

One other difference here is that DCUM has a lot more men actively engaged. You can see the Demographics breakdown in the advertising tab.

Just asking because at in we could see all threads. So we could updates on people. Like someone would post How is Chlamydia Mom? Or any updates from Christmas tree mom?

Here there are so many boards that we could lose each other.

I would love to see some of you NYC folks step in on the ballet party coronavirus thread and explain what an actual socialite is. Some of these women here think DC has a social scene.

As I mentioned earlier, posting in the correct forum and staying on-topic are the two big concerns. Check out the Off-Topic forum and you will see that race issues are pretty much dominating the discussions. Sexuality is okay as long as it is not explicit. However, I often have to remove even non-explicit discussions of sexuality due to the ad networks' terms of service. Google, in particular, has been pretty strict lately. My normal practice is to leave threads up for a couple of days after they have been flagged by an ad network and then remove them. If they are not flagged, I leave them alone.

You described yourself as "center-right". If that is the case, I don't think you will have any problems and even many of the liberals will be glad to see you posting.

here from UB. my experience when stuff gets shut down and moves is that everything kind of fizzles. hoping that doesn't happen with the UB crew.

Nobody gets banned due to their political views. We ask that political posts be confined to the Political forums and that discussions stay on topic. Because we are a DC-centric site and DC is very liberal, most of our users are liberal. Many conservatives feel that they don't get a fair shake. Other conservatives have posted here for years and are pretty happy with how the site is moderated.

I ask that users participate in site moderation by using the "report" button to alert me to inappropriate posts since there is no way that I can read every post. It has been my experience that conservatives are reluctant to report posts. On the other hand, their posts get reported frequently. As a result, it is more likely that conservative posts will get my attention and, potentially, be removed more often than posts by liberals. If you browse the "Website Feedback" forum, you will find that it is a popular place for the conservatives here to complain. For a group that seems to live in fear of being banned, they are certainly not shy about insulting me at every opportunity.
