I’m 27 and love my David Yurman classic cable bracelet. Simple and goes with everything.

The VCA 5 Motif bracelet is like $4k. Not cheap, but not the $14k for the necklace.

+1. I had a great necklace years ago from DY. It broke after light use in less than a year and they quoted me more than the price of the necklace to fix it.

Cartier Love bracelets are already dated, and there dammed near impossible to remove when you need to (like the airport). At least you can slide a cable bracelet on and off.

Great question. I will say some of my peers who were into DY have moved onto Cartier and Van Cleef, but those bracelets are hardly in the same range price wise (4-6k without diamonds). And it truly is a small portion of the population at 35.

Maybe the Hermès H bracelets? I see those often on college and young 20s women.

I think the Cartier Love bracelets had their moment a few years ago. Van Cleef Alhambra never really goes out but you're looking at 15,000 dollars for the 14 motif necklace.

It was very popular when I grew up in the South in the 1990's and 2000's, kind of like the Tiffany heart chain necklace. I have the same reaction to it as I do when I see a Michael Kors bag: it's not ugly, but it is kind of dated, over exposed, and over produced.

If you're investing in a piece now, I would go with something less branded. Give yourself some time, and cast a wide net when shopping. You'll find something beautiful and timeless that is unique to you.

When I was in my early 20s, I used to request a Yurman cable thoroughbred piece for every gift, 21st bday, graduation, first job, even a promise ring from my then bf (lame!) lol I'm 35 now, so I do agree that its height is over, but I still like what I own. I don't wear my cable bracelets daily, mostly because I've toned down a bit (momlife!), so they fill me with nostalgia whenever I wear them. I wouldn't buy anything new, they've had some price increases that are just a little unwarranted imho. But it's silver and gold jewelry, so the more classic pieces won't ever "go out of style" whatever that means these days. They're not shoulder pads lol

If you like it and are okay paying for it, get something, I doubt you'll regret it.

It’s timeless. I have several pieces and still get a lot of compliments when I wear them. Buy what you like.

I liken it to the Valentino Rockstuds or the Celine Luggage Tote. Classic styling so they don’t date, but definitely tied to a very specific time when they were mega popular. (For me, 2005-2010).

And all designer jewelry is overpriced - Yurman, Cartier, Tiffany’s, Van Cleef. If you like it buy it.

How did they break? I want to buy a couple more pieces but I'm hard on my jewelry and have a toddler and baby.

I'm not hard on jewelry at all. One was a chain that holds a stone pendant. It was literally just hanging on my necklace rack and fell off and broke. It was the chain itself. The repair was almost as much as buying a new chain. The second was a watch. The watch had two small stones on either side of the face. One of the stones fell off. I was in a metro station and actually saw it drop off and was able to recover the stone. I hadn't bumped it or anything.

What surprised me most, like I said, was that they don't stand behind their product at all. Stones should not fall out absent a hit to the piece and a chain should not just fall apart.

I liked it in 2000 and still like it!
