We will be at the beach. No fireworks this year, so we will either have an epic epic game of dominoes going or I will try to convince the kids to watch Hamilton on Disney.

This sounds lovely!

Yes, Independence Day celebrates America’s independence from England.

And if England had won that fight, slavery would have ended in America in 1807. Happy Independence Day, y'all. Be best!

Ok

And the song we sign says " the land of the free and the home of the brave".....except not everyone was free. I may never sing the National Anthem again.....

You won’t sing the song because we haven’t achieved that goal yet?

Ok.

Because it was a lie when it was written

Do you celebrate Thanksgiving? It's arguably more offensive, when you think about what it celebrates and what happened to Native Americans.

Lobster and beach. I am putting the flag bunting on the deck today. Trying to make it festive.

Yes I get that not everyone was free in 1776, but my ancestors all arrived in the early 1900s to escape religious persecution in Eastern Europe/Baltics so despite persistent anti-semitism even today it was much freer than what they left behind.

We sorta "partnered" with another family in the neighborhood, so we're having them over for an outdoor BBQ.

Going to try to find some sparklers and decorations for the kids to decorate their bikes and do their own little parade.

I will be working all weekend. I have to be at work at 6am so probably wont even stay up late enough to do sparklers.

Maybe there’s a firework channel? No balcony in our apartment.

I'll make a pretty fruit tart with DD, listen to some of my favorite political speeches on YouTube while I cook (probably to include Obama's eulogy in S.Carolina, which is perfect for the times), BBQ on the deck, wave to neighbors as they walk their dogs, light sparklers with the kids when it gets dark, watch an appropriately themed movie with teen DS in the evening. Maybe Band of Brothers, since DS has been visiting a relative who was in the Airborne.

We will miss being at the pool and with our usual group of friends.
