The after school places are going to make a ton by expanding programs. Also the preschools and daycares which offer K or 1st are going to be in huge demand since their K will be 5 days a week. People thinking of leaving for K will stay.

We have insurance that covers this. It does not cover private care for 2 kids because school is closed. however. Pre-K we paid for daycare 40 hours a week for $250-300 per week. Cost differential for private care to help kids while distance learning is a much, much greater expense (we paid $400/week for 22 hours of care - nothing close to the coverage you get at a daycare).

There will be tons of new places open. All of the TKD/dance/gymnastics places near me have announced they will offer a school aged service to compliment the hybrid model. These are places whose buildings sat empty during school before.

Who do you hang out with who has 5 or 6? I grew up around Mormons and even then it’s 3 or 4.

DP here. You must not spend any time reading the comments on the school board pages and other FB groups that have formed since the the closure.

Don't many daycares only take children through age 5 (kindergarten). Someone else is lined up to take their spot for the fall now

That’s unfair. People did plan. For the little years. NOBODYS family planning has ever had to account for school being open.

I think part of the issue isn’t just money but the stress of not knowing. We didn’t know till now what the portions are, we still don’t all know the days we will need care, we don’t know what our drop off and pick up and bus needs are, etc. We don’t know about all the camp options.

And a lot of people don’t know when they’ll be back in the office versus WFH. It’s a lot of unknowns.

Not to mention when a good nanny is open or a good camp opens it’s a big battle/scramble.

Because they bought a house and now they can't afford it.

They point is, people will figure it out. They are just mad right now.
