Wetsuit wash will help remove the stink.

Doesn’t stop it from happening, but a soak in the sink and a scrub of the neoprene parts with wet suit wash on a toothbrush will get you a couple of weeks of lower stink levels.

I love cute shoes but gave in this and got my 3 year old Keens. They are ugly but super practical and she loves them. No smell yet. She also has Footmate sandals (SOO much better than Saltwaters—same look and durability but with sturdy velcro so kids can put them on themselves—I’ll never do those stupid buckles again) and Cienta t strap sneakers for cuter summer looks but most days are Keens.

Mine has worn saltwaters since she was first walking. She learned to do the buckles around 2.5. Once the leather is broken in she can do the straps and buckles with no help. When they’re new she needs help figuring out which hole to use for a good fit.

My kids didn't at 3. And they were actually tough for DH to buckle for some reason. We stopped giving them to our kids because we were tired of buckling them.

Saltwater! My daughter wears her all day and loves them, scooters, runs, never an issue. NEVER smell and are adorable!

Don’t they stub their toes?

Weirdly, my daughter never ran into this problem. Was worried about the same.

Most summer camps require closed-toe shoes for this reason.

Natives (Jefferson). Both my kids wear these all summer long.

Teva makes some good closed-toe sandals. They are lighter weight than Keens and don't smell.
