There are actually bereavement groups/therapy particularly for pet loss. Sometimes it’s offered through the humane society.

I wish I could see your pain. Wishing you comfort and peace.

^^ wish I could *ease* your pain.

So many hugs. Some of us know that these animals are family.
Grieve, but stop any blame. There's no blame, dogs do that. Take the time to grieve.

We had to suddenly put down our 8 year old cat last November. I know it sounds like just a cat, but he brought such joy and love into our house. We used to joke that he was like a dog because he was so cuddly and loved belly rubs. It took months to even be able to talk about him. I’m sorry for your loss, OP. You are not alone.

I'm so sorry--our family loves our dog so much, I can only imagine how devastated we would be to lose her. Just take your time.

Oh, OP. Your post brought me to tears. I am so sorry. This is a tremendous loss. I would imagine that right now the only temporary respite from this pain will be sleep. If you need meds to help you rest, maybe ask your doctor. Would it help to do something to honor your sweet pup? Planting a new tree or flower somewhere. Or finding some favorite pictures and having them printed out and framed. There will be lots and lots of tears as you do this, but it may be cathartic. A donation to a rescue to help other dogs find homes as living as yours also would be a lovely memorial.

Most importantly, please, please don’t blame yourself. This was a freak accident. You could not have predicted this would happen.

Your dog’s love is still with you. It is ok to embrace it and cherish it. Wishing you peace.
