Got both my DS and DD Tesla model 3 each when they turned 17 years old.

PP again. They didn't have a car at college, out of state. We flew them home or they took the train.

No, we didn't "get" our kid a car. We had more than one car for our household, and when it was not an inconvenience for us, they were able to use it. We did not say no unless we needed the car. They didn't need to justify using it but they never assumed anything either.

When they graduated college, we helped, a few thousand dollars for the down payment on a new car. They took out a car loan.

You are a bad and cheap parent if you don't.

Really? Some kids don't want a car.

I don't think you're a bad or cheap parent, OP.

I didn't. We could afford to, but DD hadn't learned to drive and I think it's important for her to save up and pay for what she wants herself.

I think it's normal, even among fairly wealthy parents, to hand a car down.

That's how I'm feeling.

Just make sure the car can fit inside your little bubble.

Where can I buy a used, low mileage car for a good price?

No. They use the family car. No need at college. The money they make working the summers between college years will help toward a used car.

No, most don't and it makes no sense to get one in high school. I got one my senior year as I needed it for an internship. Getting it for college graduation makes more sense as then they will have it to get a job and future with no car note and it will be new/newer with less repairs/more reliable.
