It is not fraud. If you have IB residency you are eligible to enroll in the neighborhood school. There is a classic example of a family who moved IB to Janney while their house was being renovated for 3 months. Not only did they enroll their K child, their younger child got sibling preference for the lottery 2 years later.


If they weren't inbound anymore they wouldn't have gotten preference over in-bound non siblings. They would only get preference over other out of bounds non-siblings. Except for immersion schools the in-bounds preference is stronger than the OOB sibling preference

Scenario:
You have a child entering 6th grade. You do not have a solid option for middle school. You were hoping to lottery into a charter but no luck.
You rent in Glover Park for 3 months, register your child for Hardy and your child now has a solid Middle School Option.

OR - you have a child in 1st grade and you are concerned about the upper elementary at your school. You were hoping to lottery into a better elementary but did not.
Rent IB in Glover Park, register for Stoddert and now you have a path AT least through 5th grade.

People make these choices all the time over the summer. It is not a December thing.

If there is any furniture/items that are precious to you, lock them up or put them in storage. No tenant will ever treat your home and your things as well as you do. Learned that the hard way.

hi- I think you can get a lot more than 3k a month. We live in glover and are getting ready to sell our house. We plan to move into a rental for a few months so we can stage and sell and possibly renovate a new house (we have 2 small children and cant keep the house clean for selling etc). Ive seen things in the 4-6k range for monthly rentals. Maybe reach out to your realtor and ask if she has any leads. Families looking to buy in glover to secure a space in stoddart may want to rent while they wait to buy. good luck.

I am interested in renting your house! We are moving to DC next month and would like to live in a rental for a few months before we buy a house. It is hard to find a rental for 6 months (almost always 12 months); so could be a win-win! Let me know if you are interested.

We would have loved a 3-6 month lease when we sold our home, but hadn't found a new place yet. We already had our stuff in storage and ended up staying with a relative short term. In our situation. we didn't want to have to sign a year lease for an apt - we wanted to be able to quickly settle on a house, so your term would have been ideal.

^^ I'm the poster above. One more thing, I kept the utilities in my name, and wrote into the lease that they would reimburse me for the cost of utilities each month. I sent them a pdf copy of the bills each month so they could add it to the rent. I do believe I paid for water up to a certain amount, because I wanted to make sure my plants were still watered - but this was where it was hot and I had irrigation, so may not be an issue here locally.
