Great for power lunches or afterwork happy hours.

Old Ebbitt Grill - 675 15th Street NW.

Good if you want to impress a boss.

District Taco - 1309 F Street NW.

If your friend is just looking for cheap, fast casual lunch - can't go wrong with District Taco.

These are decent recs but very very very different. The smith is upscale gastro-grill.
Don’t do Old Ebbitt Grill right now. Too many Republicans; it’s a trumper hangout.
Try Rose’s Luxury or minibar.
District Taco is about the best fast food there is. So good.

Roses and minibar don't do lunch. Rose's is on Capitol Hill, and minibar is VERY expensive - if the OP is looking for a gift certificate for lunch she may not want to spend $1500 for dinner for 2.

I'd go with Joe's or Old Ebbitt. Make sure it doesn't expire.

OP here. Thank you so much everyone for the suggestions!

Actually the gift recipient is a Republican lobbyist!

This is the right answer. It's close to the White House and is a real power lunch spot. Also has a great bar.

(BTW, Woodward Table closed last year.)

I used to work right next to the WH and I think you’ve received good recommendations. I would add Woodward Table.

I like old ebbits with tourists...but not someone who is a local.

Hamilton is solid and offers a diverse selection of food; appeals to anyone. Owned by the same group as Old Ebbit tho.

Equinox will survive, but it's fancier.

I'm basically a socialist, and I love Old Ebbitt. I'll be damned if I'm going to let the Republicans have it!

Really weird timing. Is Old Ebbitt even open in any capacity? What a nightmare.

Blue Duck Tavern is not close to the WH.
