We go. I've got a sensory-seeking child and no yard. We both wear masks and sanitize hands after. I don't take him to anything indoors and the only indoor place I go is the grocery store. We don't eat at restaurants even outdoors. This is where we are "spending" our relatively lower risk chips.

It depends a bit on your kid’s personality and how crowded the playground is. My 3 year old isn’t super outgoing, so he has no problem staying away from other kids, and thus far the playgrounds haven’t been all that crowded. I’d feel differently if he were more likely to come in close contact with other kids, or put stuff in his mouth.

No. It’s not the surfaces it’s the other kids and their caregiver or parent. There is no way my 21 month old could or should wear a mask nor will he stay six feet away from another unmasked toddler.

If the playground was completely empty, I’d take him in a heartbeat.

We live in DC and there are tons of playgrounds in the neighborhood. I take my 4 year old in the morning and rarely see anyone else. If it were crowded I’d just walk to another one. We sanitize regularly.

We talk about distancing if there are other kids there (we leave if there is more than 1 other family) or we play on a different part of the playground. We stress don't touch the face. But she's also back in daycare now so I can't be SUPER strict.

OP, let your kids play on the playground. They'll be fine.

We’ve gone to non crowded playgrounds. Usually just one or two other kids there. We’ve gone a few times and with a toddler, it’s hard to keep hands off the face but I bring hand sanitizer. I do still worry about it.

Bumping cause I’m curious how people feel about this now. We’re in Del Ray and the play grounds are getting increasingly crowded. My 3 year old has been out of daycare since March and we only go to the playground when we walk by and see no one else is on it, but lately that’s almost never the case. Are we being overly cautious?

My 1.5 year old wakes up at 6am. I would only go before like 9am.

No, we won’t go back to the playgrounds unless there is absolutely no one else there and we’ll leave immediately if someone else arrives. And the chance of no one else being there is basically nil.

We go and try to aim for non crowded times. It is a risk but very small and the risk of adverse effects from NOT going is higher.

People forget that not doing things carries risks too.

I went today and it was great. I had a mask with me but it was sufficiently un-crowded that I didn’t feel the need to wear it, and I did not have my 5 year old wear his mask because playground is exercise for him, he runs around a lot. Honestly if I was at a playground where I felt I needed a mask due to crowds, I’d probably just leave and find a smaller neighborhood playground.

I was surprised at how much endurance DS had lost mostly being at home these last 3 months. We will definitely need to do more playground visits in the next few weeks.
