I assume they put them on a waitlist hoping some kids won’t end up coming to campus because of the virus. I think they’re going to be surprised at how few will opt to stay home

So, VT pushes out the freshman first and also mandates that kids who live off-campus can’t purchase a dining plan?

Tech had freshman in hotels last year with over enrollment. Why not continue? I assume the hotels would love the business.

I agree that the priority should go to freshman. Also, I think that if any freshman is denied housing at a school that has always made living on campus a requirement, and the university isn't supplying the alternative housing (a nearby hotel with shuttle buses) then that student should be able to request a gap year and get it, even if it is past whatever deadline they set for applying for a gap year.

I think VT should have secured housing for all the freshman. When I went to JMU and they had too many kids accept, they rented out two motels and our kids in storage rooms, etc.
Tech could do the same.

That's a lot of extra living space for Blacksburg to come up with when leases were signed by exiting students last fall. I hope the school will facilitate housing searches for these kids. Obviously the most affordable and/or convenient options are taken.
