We went to Butlers last weekend for strawberries and it was really great. We’ll be going back when they have different crops!

What the hell? People have been doing this forever - we went strawberry picking at the farm down the street when I was growing up in the midwest 40 years ago.

Fruit picking is spread out and out in the open air. The grocery stores are more populated and it’s hundreds of people going into the same building over the course of the day

Subject: Has anyone taken their kids fruit picking recently?
I went to Miller Farms in Clinton, MD today. The fields were empty of people, and I was going to pick but they had already picked cartons for $5 in the market so got a few instead. Miller Farms is great with a bakery, lunch stand, farm store and plants. Call first because it's approaching the end of the season --probably next week.

Tbh it’s a bit of virtue signaling to the consumer. Requiring it may not do much of anything but it gives the impression that they “care” and are being “proactive” so that they can stay in business and you’ll come spend your money. It would be bad PR for them to require nothing.
No one was in a mask except staff where we were.

and also that MD does NOT require wearing mask outdoors, and adding the sun UV (you could call them SUV I guess.. )..

Farm picking is not what it was. At least in MD. They require you to wear mask even in the field when you are a mile away from the next person. It is logical and makes sense not to breath on the crop but then it also defies purpose of being outside in the sun and enjoying the nature. Masks on a hot scorching day is more then nuisance, it is huge breathing restrictor.
Also nowadays you have to prepay and reserve the window that cost significantly. If you can afford it then great way to support the farm.

We went to butler last weekend. They kept capacity way down and there were very few people there. Plenty of strawberries and we were not restricted to a particular row. Everyone was very respectful of each other and stayed very distant and wore masks. You have to make reservations and decide ahead of time how many strawberries you are paying for.
