You could see if Concord Hill or Grace Episcopal would work for your location. Have known happy families at both and both have very good reputations.

NO

Is the "NO" because it's not a great school in your opinion or it is not accepting applications?

To clarify, not a good school, in my opinion. We are currently enrolled, and not disgruntled enough to withdraw, however, we wish we had chosen another Montessori school. The academics are pretty good, and my kid is happy there.

My issue is I find the school unkempt (cigarette butts on the ground, (sometimes) smelly bathroom, the playground is being updated, but in the meantime there are some safety concerns; rusted nails poking out of the equipment, etc—- to me this speaks to a larger issue. I also find the community to be cliquey.

PP, have you raised these concerns with the Head of School? The school leases its facility from the church and so has limited control over the grounds, but I think some of your issues with facilities maintenance could be addressed. [/quote

Yes, if the school uses the church space, then the school is responsible for making the campus free of cigarette butts, just like the school (not the church) hires their own cleaning crew. The school needs to be more pro-active about having a pristine campus. Regarding the playground safety issues, the school designed the playground, and the school uses the playground, not the church, so it is the schools responsibility to check for exposed nails, etc.

Although my child is happy there, and the academics are fairly decent.

Take a look at Acorn Hill Waldorf nursery and kindergarten. My kids had wonderful experiences there.
